St. Patrick's Day Parade Detailed Information

Dear Dublin Cycling Campaign St. Patrick’s Day Bicycle Space Participant,

Get excited, the Campaign space in the St.Patrick’s Day Parade is upon us this Friday 17th of March! A BIG thanx to our designers and organisers, but particularly to our main sponsors for the day that enabled all this to take place, Healthy Ireland, Dublin City Council, and Department of Transport Tourism & Sport. But most of all thanx to you, the participants, for agreeing to be part of this event! Well, you’ve asked for the details and we’ve got them!

Where to meet: Our starting point is Western Way near the Constitution Hill end - i.e. very near Broadstone bus depot (Dublin 7). We will be handing out wristbands that you need to participate.

When to meet: Arrival around 10.30-11am. Be careful which way you approach as some locations are closed to traffic in preparation for the parade but should be fine with a bicycle. The parade starts at 12 noon sharp but we need to be there a good bit earlier to organise ourselves.

What to expect: The parade should take an hour to get through the parade and finish approx. around 1-30pm at Kevin street. http://www.stpatricksfestival.ie/eventImages/Map_with_Info_on_web_Smalle…

What to wear: Either old-timey or regular (colourful) clothing. We also have a Fashion section so if you want to come along dressed really smartly in modern clothes that would be great too! We want to showcase the past and present of the bicycle as a part of normal everyday life, so please keep the high-viz at home, there’s no chance we won’t be seen and we certainly won’t be going very fast! Please don’t wear green clothes, shamrocks or Irish flags as the parade route is already very green and will not make our group’s stand out.

What to bring: Proper rain gear just in case and warm clothes. We will be hanging around for a while before the parade starts so snacks/water too. Entertainment is the name of the game, so if you’ve got - or can source - loud ‘DING-DONG’ bells do please bring them along.

After the Parade: We will be meeting at Flannery’s pub on Camden street only 100 meters from the finish of the parade to enjoy some refreshments after a day of fun. Hot/Cold drinks provided with sandwiches and chips etc. (http://flannerysdublin.com/).

Post-Parade Bicycle Parking: We will be parking our bikes in a secure location within DIT Kevin street campus very close to the finish of the parade so you can relax and enjoy the food and drinks after the parade.

Contact Persons. The run-up to the Parade is pretty hectic at our end particularly the morning itself, but if you need to contact someone in Dublin Cycling Campaign itself please call Veronica at +44 7739881431 or Paul on 086 1035617

Finally! If you are not already a member of Dublin Cycling Campaign, do please join. We have greater strength and can represent cyclists’ interests better with more members on board. Thank you! http://www.dublincycling.ie/join

See you on Friday morning!

Yours Dublin Cycling Campaign Events Team.
