Cycling through the Cinema!

The German Cultural body, the Goethe Institute, are based in Fitzwilliam Square in Dublin 2. As part of their contribution to Culture Night on 22nd September they are showing an array of films from around the world on the theme of ‘cycling’ to celebrate the 200th birthday of the invention of the bicycle in Germany in 1817! See below and this link for details. You can pop in and out at various times on the night as it suits!

This year’s short film programme remembers German Baron Karl von Drais who cycled on a so-called Draisine through the streets of Mannheim in 1817. Today, the Draisine is regarded as the bicycle’s forerunner. The bike is popular with people all over the world in the year of its 200th birthday. For this aniversary the Hamburg KurzFilmAgentur collected films produced in Australia, Germany, France/Belgium, New Zealand, the Netherlands/ Great Britain, Sweden and Switzerland, dealing with cycling-themes.

See you there!
