"Today’s cities face big problems, like polluted air, obese citizens and social exclusion. Luckily, there's a simple solution: the bicycle. We believe that if we share stories of inspiring people on bikes, we can encourage cities to take pro-cycling action. So we have embarked on a mission to film 100 Cycling with... documentaries'.
Paddy will talk about the project and show some of the short documentaries, including some previously unseen.

We are currently compiling a list of presenters and topics for the remainder of our monthly meetings in 2013. Please email us on info@dublincycling.ie (or make a posting on https://www.facebook.com/dublincycling) if you have ideas for hot topics for discussion! Or, if you are a (student) researcher on a cycling topic and would like to present, we'd love to hear from you! Our list of speakers has been far too male-dominated so do please have a think about exciting, influential women from the bicycle world who might like to speak.
New members are always very welcome. Coming to a meeting is a great way to find out what is happening in the city, to share your experiences of bicycling in Dublin and to join forces with us to help advance our aims. Do arrive early to be guaranteed a seat - numbers are ballooning month on month as the Campaign grows.

Recent Talks
Mon 13 May
Iain Boal, the oral historian and cycling campaigner in the UK and US - on his Green Machine Tour of Dublin - treated Dublin Cycling Campaign to a really fascinating account of the history of the bicycle at our May monthly meeting. Iain was in Dublin for a week-long residency as part of The Prosperity Project with artist Jesse Jones. Thanks a million to Iain! We look forward to reading his book soon. We'll put a link to where the book is available soon too. Here is a photo of Iain with Dr. Mike McKillen (Chairperson of Cyclist.ie) after the talk.

Richie Byrne, the Godfather of Irish Mountainbiking (pic below!), on "The History, Current State & Future of Irish Mountain-biking"

Mon 11/March
Séamus Mac Gearailt, Director in Roughan O Donovan (ROD) Engineering, presented on "Planning Dublin's Cycle Network". Séamus is a Fellow of Engineers Ireland, an avid cyclist and team leader of the joint ROD / Aecom study on a future cycle network for the Greater Dublin Area (GDA). His presentation delved into the research and thinking underpinning the development of the proposed network spanning seven Local Authority areas. According to Séamus, the proposed network has the potential to revolutionise the development of cycling in the GDA and his talk considered the potential improvement of commuter routes, inter-urban connections and ‘green’ corridors. A sincere thanks to Séamus for giving over his time to speak. We hope to upload a copy of his presentation here soon.

Dave Fadden and Ciaran Fallon addressed the topic: "On Our Bikes!? Ireland's National Cycle Policy Framework (NCPF)". Ireland has a National Cycle Policy since 2009 - but how did it come about and how is it working in practice? Is it time to take stock?

Dave Fadden (in white above, looking across at the NCPF) was a senior Civil Servant in the Department of Transport and was one of the architects behind the policy. He outlined how the national policy came to be and gave some more general insights into how strategy and policy is formulated within the Civil Service. Ciaran Fallon (above right) was Ireland's first (and only) Cycling Officer and worked with Dublin City Council from 2009-2012. Ciarán outlined some of the challenges encountered in putting the new policy into practice at a Local Authority level.
