2009-10-31 Eastlink

Check out the approach to the Eastlink Bridge. National Toll Roads have put up Cyclists Dismount signs.

- These are not in the 1997 Traffic Signs Regulations. This Cyclists prohibited sign has no basis in Irish Law.

- It is typically not safe to dismount at the place the signs have been put.

- What is the justification for this on a short stretch of typical two-lane road with no junctions or anything else which would suggest that cyclists should be prohibited. The Bridge obviously lifts but the barriers come down before this happens.

We return to the South Campshires in the Docklands which we previously covered here.

Note that the bollards are in the cycle track. When measure the remaining width it is 1.2 m which is completely substandard for this two-way cycle track.
