Law Enforcement and Road User Behaviour
The Dublin Cycling Campaign wants to see much stronger enforcement of traffic legislation that affects vulnerable road users, including cyclists and pedestrians. These include:
- Speeding on urban and rural roads
- Inattention by motorists, e.g. use of mobile phones
- Dangerous overtaking
- Vehicle standards, particularly for HGVs
- Dangerous parking, e.g. in cycle lanes
- Bicycle theft
In a submission to the Road Safety Authority in 2012 we called for greater education of drivers on how to interact safely with cyclists.

Public roads are for all road users, and this should be reflected both in the design of roads, in the management of traffic, and in the formulation and enforcement of traffic law.
The Campaign contributed to this Cyclist.ie submission to the Road Safety Authority seeking improvement in the ‘Rules of the Road’ guidance document and driver training.
Bike Theft in Dublin: Running at four times the official recorded rate………. and rising.
Bike theft is unfortunately a common occurrence here in Dublin, but there are a number of steps that you can take to avoid having your bike stolen.

The Dublin Cycling Campaign made a submission (see pdf file below) on the draft Bye Laws on speed limits on local and regional road in Fingal.
The Dublin Cycling Campaign, together with Cyclist.ie, strongly support the introduction of widespread 30Kp/h zones in the city, particularly in residential streets and in the vicinity of schools.
