NATIONAL BIKE WEEK 2010: Saturday 12- Sunday 20 June 2010

The second National Bike Week (NBW) will take place in 2010 from Saturday 12 until Sunday 20 June. It is promoted by the Department of Transport as part of its 'Smarter Travel' intitiative and the national cycling promotion policy framework. NBW is firmly grounded in local authorities who are expected to play a lead role in co-ordinating all that is happening in their areas and regions. Local community involvement is essential to make the NBW work next year.

Now is the time for local communities to meet to discuss what is most appropriate for them to organise and promote. It is over to sports organisations and clubs, youth organisations like scouts and guides, chambers of commerce, IFA, Macra, charities, etc to come up with the ideas and then make contact with their local authorities to bring it to fruition.

The NBW web-site at www.bikeweek.ie will be updated soon and ideas and templates will be posted to assist groups in organising events.

The final national event will take place in Phoenix Park on Sunday 20 June.
