18 New active travel positions for Fingal County Council

At the recent full council meeting Cllr Ian Carey asked how many positions were applied for by Fingal County Council from the new active travel funding announcement from the Dept of Transport. See full statement from Chief executive of Fingal County Council. This is good news following the recent announcement of a new Active travel department back in October 2020 which has been created to tackle climate change and improve active travel within the council area.

COMHAIRLE CONTAE FHINE GALL FINGAL COUNTY COUNCIL COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING MONDAY 8 TH FEBRUARY 2021

ITEM NO. 18

ACTIVE TRAVEL NEW POSITIONS

Question: Councillor I. Carey “To ask the Chief Executive, following the announcement of 248 new roles in Local Authorities for the staff to work on active travel, what plans are in place to apply for these roles, what number of staff are being applied for, what positions will they have and when are they expected to come on stream?”

Reply As part of the newly established Active Travel section, Fingal County Council has received NTA approval for 18 additional staff. Sanction for the additional posts will now be sought from the Department of Local government & Housing. It is anticipated it will take a number of months to fill all positions.
