Update on Greenway from 12th Lock to Kildare Border by Councillor Roderic O'Gorman

Councillor Roderic O’Gorman of the Green party put forward a question to FIngal County council for an update on the construction of the section of the Royal Canal greenway between the 12th Lock and the Kildare border. Fingal County Council is entirely reliant on the NTA to provide funds for the design and construction of the Royal Canal Greenway between the 12th Lock and the Kildare County boundary. At a meeting with the NTA in January 2017, the NTA agreed to provide a sum of €200,000 for a Consultant to undertake a Preliminary Design for the Greenway, including the section known as the “Deep Sinking” section between Castleknock and Clonsilla Railway Stations. The section shown is from the Irish trails website.http://www.irishtrails.ie/maps/RCW%20-%20Map%202%20M50%20to%20Leixlip.pdf During February the Council drew-up a Consultant’s Brief and this was submitted (in early March) to the NTA for approval. Once approved, the Brief will be advertised on eTenders with a view to appointing Consultants. The time estimated to complete the Preliminary Design and Planning Stage is 20 months from commencement. A further 12 months will be required to complete the detailed design and prepare the tender documents. Councillor O’Gorman has said its a significant development.
