On Our Bikes!? Ireland's National Cycle Policy Framework (NCPF)

Monday, 11 February 2013 (All day)
The Central Hotel

Dave Fadden and Ciaran Fallon

Ireland has a National Cycle Policy since 2009 - but how did it come about and how is it working in practice? Is it time to take stock?

Dave Fadden (in white above, looking across at the NCPF) was a senior Civil Servant in the Department of Transport and was one of the architects behind the policy. He outlined how the national policy came to be and gave some more general insights into how strategy and policy is formulated within the Civil Service.

Ciaran Fallon (above right) was Ireland’s first (and only) Cycling Officer and worked with Dublin City Council from 2009-2012. Ciarán outlined some of the challenges encountered in putting the new policy into practice at a Local Authority level.
