At a recent council meeting Cllr O’Mahony asked about plans for cycle lanes in the Castleknock local area. The Chief executive replied that within the next 5 years there are plans for 6 different projects at various stages of planning from feasibility, planning, design and construction phases.

Fingal Cycling Campaign has recently published its statement on the poor quality of item 6 “Snugborough road interchange”. https://www.dublincycling.com/cycling/final-designs-snugborough-road-int… We have also made a submission to the recent consultation on Kellystown road which had some concerning designs that would increase traffic flow for vehicles and create left hook danger zones for cyclists. https://www.dublincycling.com/cycling/diswellstown-road-upgarde-designed… There has been many delays to the Royal canal greenway project. Hopefully 2021 will show greater speed in applying resources to these projects with new staff announcements and active travel depts within Fingal County Council. Although it is concerning that the projects that we have already made submissions too are of medium to poor quality.

“To ask the Chief Executive to outline the locations for proposed cycle lanes in the Castleknock LEA in the next five years?”

Reply: Over the next five year period the Planning & Strategic Infrastructure Department will continue to bring forward the below schemes through various stages including feasibility, planning, design and construction phases. Schemes 1 – 6 are likely to reach construction stage during this period. 1. Royal Canal Urban Greenway 2. Damastown-Clonsilla cycle route 3. Church Fields Link Road and Cycle Network 4. Ongar-Barnhill Link Road 5. Kellystown Road 6. Snugborough Interchange 7. Blanchardstown-Phoenix Park cycleway 8. Mulhuddart Church Road The Active Travel Department are looking at a number of routes in the Castleknock LEA in consultation with the NTA, discussions are ongoing at present and are subject to the availability of resources. The routes under consideration are as follows. 1. Heuston to Blanchardstown via the Phoenix Park 2. Luttrellstown to Ballycoolin Rd 3. Snugborough Rd - NAC to Waterville Rd 4. Clonee to Blanchardstown Shopping Centre 5. Castleknock to Dunsink Lane
