Blackrock village feedback

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown recently announced a village improvement project in Blackrock village. Phase 1 completed at the end of June and Dublin Cycling Campaign’s DLR group shared some feedback with the Council to help make Phase 2 even better for cycling and walking.

Dublin Cycling Campaign are overall very supportive of village redesign projects that prioritise people. This has the potential to reduce traffic, noise pollution and air pollution in the village, while making it safer to walk, cycle and stay in Blackrock village, particularly for families. We hope that this project is a success for local residents, businesses and visitors to Blackrock alike. We would welcome all 4 Dublin councils to pursue similar village redesigns.

The main points of feedback we made were:

  • Safety improvements for the contra-flow cycle lane
  • Discouraging overtaking of people cycling in the narrow one-way lane shared with motorised traffic
  • Additional bike parking locations
  • Quick wins for improving cycling links between the village and the surrounding area

The full submission from Dublin Cycling Campaign is below. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown have set up a dedicated feedback form where members of the public can request improvements for walking, cycling, outdoor seating and other changes that can make the county more resilient during the covid-19 pandemic. Share your feedback with the Council today.
