Broadmeadow Plan goes to Public Consultation

Fingal County Council (FCC) has created great excitement in the Malahide-Donabate area with their proposal to create a 6.5 km long cyclist/pedestrian track from Malahide Castle across the Broadmeadow Estuary to Newbridge House.

Skerries Cycling Initiative Chairperson Ray Ryan commented : “This long-awaited and most welcome plan has huge positive implications, not only for local cyclists and pedestrians but for the development of cycle tourism in Fingal. The viaduct crossing is one of two key pieces of infrastructure which are required to bring into existence the grand tourism project, the Fingal Coast & Castle Way which would run from Balbriggan to Sutton where it would join the Sutton-to-Sandcove cycle track. The other of course is a cyclist/pedestrian bridge over the Rogerstown Estuary at Balleally. The Broadmeadow Way also has important commuter-cycling possibilities for adults and schoolchildren. The Broadmeadow estuary already has abutments in place”

Cycling groups can make submissions to Fingal County Council on the plans up to March 28th.
