Minister for Transport cuts the ribbon on the latest section of the Dodder Greenway

Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan, officially opened the latest section of the Dodder Greenway at the Weir on Lower Dodder Road in Rathfarnham on Monday 29th January. This lovely section goes right beside the river with it’s picturesque weir and, for the vigilant birdwatcher, a chance to spot the resident kingfisher.

The Minister complimented the Active Travel Team in South Dublin County Council for their success in bringing this project to fruition with most sections in the County now fully operational. He called on Dublin City Council and Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to accelerate the completion of their sections of the Greenway so that people of all ages and abilities can cycle all the way from the Liffey to the Bohernabreena Reservoir. He said that the project is extremely valuable to the local area, not only in terms of facilitating Active Travel and encouraging modal shift for commuters, but also in terms of enhancing the area visually and ecologically. He also mentioned the benefits for local movements such as children getting to the schools in the area.

Dublin Cycling Campaign were pleased to attend the opening, despite the heavy rain, and to have had the opportunity to contribute its views to the design teams at the many stages of this wonderful project. We believe that our many suggestions have contributed to the high standard of this great Greenway.
