Smarter Travel Success Story at UCD

UCD Belfield campus could probably be compared to a large number of Irish towns, with its student and staff population of nearly 30,000. What has been done on the UCD campus is an example to many local councils of what can be done to move to sustainable transport within their jurisdiction. Why can’t Local Authorities give it a try!?

Measures introduced to support the Smarter Travel Program included a new hourly 142 bus service between UCD and Rathmines, a new shuttle bus service between the UCD campus and DART at Sydney Parade, 800 new cycle parking stands, construction of the UCD to Windy Arbour Luas cycle route, the facility to buy Adult and Student Leap Cards on-campus, maps for public transport routes, travel-options for students, pedestrian and cycle journey time maps, and restrictions on amount of car parking spaces on campus.

Check out this infographic for further information on what’s happened in UCD, and the subsequent increase in use of sustainable transport.
