Media coverage for ECF Delegate conference and Local Authority seminar

Thanks to great help from Gemma Lougheeed, we managed to issue four press releases to national print and broadcast media that got us a lot of coverage.

On Thursday 24th of April we were on TodayFM and Kevin Mayne, from the European Cyclists’ Federation, was interviewed at approx. 17:30 h Thu 24 on Matt Cooper’s Last Word.

Maria Shannon of 98FM News interviewed Mike for a piece. She concentrated on perception of fear of cycling.

Besides the newsrooms of the national media we also sent the releases to targeted journos such as motoring, environment, health corrs and Irish Heart Alliance, Chief Medical Officer of Department of Health, etc.

Ronan McGreevy had this video in Irish Times on Sat 26. While Mike did a 20 min radio interview with Spirit Radio 89.9FM with Jacqui.

BBC Radio NI (Radio Ulster) interviewed Barry Flood (ECF board member) and Mike on Friday 25 on a news chat show at 13:20 h. The two were on air for 10 min extolling the positives of cycling despite negative questioning. It can be heard here at approx. 1h 22 min into the programme to 1 h 30 min with Conor Bradford.

Cormac Murphy had a piece just parroting our press release in Evening Herald on Fri 18 April. This was inspired from the press invitation before the conference started.

We issued a final press release highlighting the Minister of State (and MEP candidate) Brian Hayes’ signing of the EU Manifesto.

Gemma and Mike Tweeted and posted to Facebook (DCC/Cyclist.ie) throughout the three days. It took a lot of work and time but we have never managed to obtain so much coverage for cycling promotion!!
