Member Stories - Risteard Mulcahy
Professor Risteard Mulcahy was a member of Dublin Cycling Campaign from its very earliest days. He gave up his car at age 90 but still cycled for several more years after that. In this video, he talked to us about how cycling in Dublin changed and why he so strongly supported the Campaign. Risteard died in the summer of 2016. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Cycling with Max
Max is an art historian.
He has a special interest in architecture of all periods, but his true passion is the ‘Amsterdam School’ architecture of the 1900s.
On a late summer afternoon, we went on a cycle with Max along the characteristic Amsterdam School buildings. We learned how - over a century ago - an insurgent group of young architects with a vision on functionality and style and an urge to shake up the status quo, came to design the social housing projects that bring in millions of tourist to Amsterdam each year.
Cycling with Michelle
Michelle is a Dublin based performance artist.
We went for a cycle with Michelle through Dublin city centre. We started off by bringing her daughter to daycare, and we then cycled towards Clarendon street - where Michelle and the design team from New Graphic (newgraphic.ie) has recently altered the street’s appearance through a road marking artwork. On our route, we talked about Irish culture and the impact art can have on a city. And more.
