Velo-city conference is the European Cyclists’ Federation’s (ECF) annual global cycling summit organised by the ECF and selected host cities. It will take place over four days at The Convention Centre Dublin.

Velo-city series of conferences are designed to encourage cycling as part of daily transport and recreation. Dublin’s theme for Velo-city 2019 is ‘Cycling for the Ages’, which will encourage cycling by people of all ages, young and old, male and female and to promote the health, environmental, social and economic benefits of cycling. Programmed sessions will cover a wide range of topics including ‘Designing the City of 2030’; ‘Air Quality and Congestion’; ‘Greenways and Ecological Habitats’ and ‘Cycling, Sport and Leisure’. The Convention Centre Dublin is located on the banks of the River Liffey and positioned at the convergence of several key coastal, river and canal cycle routes. All Dublin’s historic, cultural and social amenities are within ten minutes’ walking distance and even closer by bike!

Who’ll be there?

Up to 2,000 delegates will bring an estimated €4 million to the local and national economy. Global experts in urban transport, active mobility, cycling promotion and elected representatives will share their knowledge over the four days.

Velo-city conference, running since 1980, is the world’s largest in the area of cycling, cycling infrastructure, bike tourism including greenway construction, and bike safety. With this year’s conference coming to Dublin, those involved in delivering cycling programmes or infrastructure across Ireland will have a rare opportunity to hear from international experts and academics on how to reap the multiple benefits of increasing cycling’s modal transport share. It’s not to be missed by those involved in the areas of public health, behavioural change, urban and infrastructure policies, mobility, and transport generally.

Velo-city is hosted by Dublin City Council and supported by the local ECF member group, our national advocacy body, Cyclist.ie.
